Mission Impossible (1966)

The Series

Mission Impossible was created by Desilu Studios - who also made Star Trek. The Impossible Missions Force worked undercover for the US government and consisted of leader Dan Briggs, a model (Cinnamon Carter), a magician (Rollin Hand, played by Martin Landau), an electronics expert (Barney Collier) and strong man (Willy Armitage). In the second season Peter Graves took over as leader Jim Phelps. Leonard Nimoy was a regular for a while. The famous title music was composed by Lalo Schifrin.

  1. Karl de Groot in The Slave: Part 1, episode aired October 8, 1967; written by William Read Woodfield + Allan Balter, directed by Lee H. Katzin

    The plot: The IMF plots to end slavery in a small Persian Gulf country by abducting the King's wife and putting her on the block.

  2. Frank Layton in The Bargain, episode aired December 15, 1968; written by Robert E. Thompson, directed by Richard Benedict

    The plot: A former dictator plans to return to power assisted by the Syndicate, for whom he will legalise gambling and to whom he will give all the rights thereto.

  3. Thor Coffin in Image, episode aired January 15, 1972, written by Sam Roeca + James Henderson, directed by Don McDougall

    The plot: IMF must prevent a crime boss from fleeing the country with his cronies, leaving new boss Coffin (Stevens) in charge.
