High Chaparral (1967)
The Series
High Chaparral was a colour Western series about a rancher family, headed by John Cannon (Leif Erikson), older brother of Buck (Cameron Mitchell). The characters who stayed with me are John's son William ("Blue" or "Blue Boy", played by Mark Slade) and wild Manolito, John's brother-in-law, played by Henry Darrow. I don't remember much else about the series except an unintentionally amusing scene in which some character tried to talk some upset Indians out of violence. He shouted at them in their language, and the phrase sounded like something pretty insulting in my home language (Afrikaans). He got himself shot soon after.
The Episode

The plot: Three new ranch hands turn out to be army deserters, and the cavalry arrives on the High Chaparral looking for them. Blue is ambushed by the deserters and almost becomes Apache fodder. The cavalry captures some Injuns - incl. a woman and a child belonging to Cochise, leader of the Apaches. During an Apache attack foreman Sam Butler and some soldiers are captured. Cochise and the captain both refuse to release their prisoners and a stand-off results. Eventually Blue breaks into the building freeing the captain's prisoners, takes them to Cochise and bring the Apache's surviving prisoners back. The end.
