Gunsmoke (1955)

The Western series Gunsmoke migrated from radio to TV. It became a long-running TV series (1955 to 1975) starring James Arness as Mat Dillon, Marshall of Dodge City. Dennis Weaver (the deputy) and Burt Reynolds are two of the famous names who played regular roles. After 6 seasons of halfhour shows the format changed to hour-long episodes. All in all the series racked up some 635 episodes.
